I think a lot of people don't want to offend their doctors and nurses by questioning their actions and reasoning behind what they do. I am guilty of this also. I do trust them, but I know that mistakes can happen. As a nurse, I am never offended when the patients or family members ask questions about medications or treatments. I actually prefer it, and it sometimes helps to prevent mistakes.
For instance, the other night I was working and a patient told me that they hadn't received some medications earlier in the day, even though my documentation showed that the previous nurse had given these meds. I then called this nurse, who told me that she had forgotten to give the meds, and I was able to get them to the patient.
Long story-short, it is always great to be your own advocate or your child's, and it can sometimes even prevent mistakes.

When I was in the hospital they gave me another cf patients iv bag (meropenum) , by some small miracle it was the same kind just wrong patient. That is really scary. I wanted someone to stay with me I was too sick to watch their every move
