A couple things

Hey again! I guess I'm just FULL of questions lately! LOL... Too much time on my hands, I guess.

OK, so I'm wondering a couple of things.

First, I recently started hypersal (the premixed stuff) after years of being on the H.S. 7% I mix myself. Well, I had to do H.S. when I mixed it myself every OTHER day only cause I just got tight when I did it and felt overall crappy on the days I did it.

Now, when I do hypersal, I'm able to tolerate it to do every single day AND I find I'm coughing tons throughout the days. I don't FEEL sick, but I do feel that I'm bringing up tons more gunk and some of it is even "chunky"... omg... sorry, that's WAY too grosse! LOL.

So, has thing happened to anyone on hypersal? Its weird cause I didn't really get anything when I mixed it myself... I mean, I maybe coughed a bit more, but not like this stuff! And, in all honesty, it SHOULD be the same %.

Thoughts?

With neither hypersal nor H.S. I mixed do I cough much WHILE I do my treatments, but instead throughout the day/night.

----------------------

My other question has to do with recently waking up in the morning and coughing a lot. Sometimes for like an hour. And, I'm getting lots of stuff up! By the time I'm ready to do my treatments (after morning coffee, breakfast, etc.), I really don't cough much at all.

Is this morning coughing a good or bad sign? I've never had it before without doing treatments or having been up for a very long time. This coughing usually starts when I'm just waking and haven't even gotten out of bed yet. Do you get that? What does it mean?

_______________________

Could the hypersal and the morning coughing be linked somehow? I mean, if I'm coughing up more gunk throughout the day/night since I've been doing hypersal every day, is it possible its also causing things to be more hydrated and move around more in the morning?

Just getting your opinions and experiences. I really do NOT feel sick so I have no idea why the increase cough and just wondering what ya'll have experienced with hypersal and morning cough?

Thanks!!!

Glad to hear the HTS is working for you!! When I first started it I got tons of goop out too. Then it subsided after a while, but I think alot had to do with less in there

As far as coughing right when you wake up I have always done that. Since I don't normally cough in my sleep when i wake up its like opening the dam. I cough and cough and cough. If I have an infection I will cough till I vomit (yuck!).

That's all I have for ya sorry!!!!!!! Hope it helped a little!!!

I did notice when I changed over to pre-mixed, it seemed that when I mixed it myself it felt much stronger/more forceful (if that makes sense) on my lungs. For a while I was worried about the pre-mixed because I wasn't sure -with it feeling weaker- if it would get as much up. It seems to be nearly (if not just) as good as when I mixed it myself, but I notice it doesn't burn my lungs like the former mixture did.

I haven't tried HS yet, but here are my thoughts on the coughing. IMO it's a good thing for us CFers. Anything to help remove the crud is good. I recently started polmozyme and like you have noticed more coughing, but it's a productive cough that brings up the crud. I also find that huffing is a lot more effective. Overall during the day my coughing is less frequent, but when I do cough it's usually more productive. In the AM (or after laying down for a nap for an hour) I find I cough more. I think that's because when we lie down, gravity slowly accumulates the crud on the low side. We we get up, start breathing more deeply and are vertical, gravity helps move the stuff around, making it tickle and inducing more coughing. This helps to bring it up & get rid of it! As a kid growing up when I didn't know that I had CF, people would always try to get rid of my cough, when in effect it was a good thing that I could keep the crud moving up & out. Any of those over the counter things that sort of dry you up and stop the cough would invariably make me feel worse, even though I sounded better (less coughing) but we never understood why. All the CF treatments are focused on loosening the crud and making it easier to get rid of so it doesn't hang out and make a nice cozy home for bacteria.... So the coughing is good! My 'morning cough' usually lasts for a few hours then subsides. No sneaking around the house early in the AM for me - the cough is a dead giveaway when I'm up & about! ~Juliet
