Hey

i was just reading a blog from a woman who has a son who has CF, and in her blog she writes that her son had pseudmonas for many years and then she read that Tea tree oil was good for gram negative bacteria (pseudo) and started making him inhale it everyday

and now he has completely eradicated the pseudmonas from him lungs, because everytime they give a sputum sample it is negative for pseudo

Does anyone belive this could be true?

Im not going to even try and experiment with it, as nebulising oils is dangerous!

But i just wanted to know your views!

I have spoken with a woman who used magnesium supplements and tea tree oil as part of her efforts to treat her adult son who had antibiotic resistant pseudo. She may have done other things as well. The strain eventually stopped being antibiotic resistant and I believe did clear up.

I have no idea. The woman I know runs an email list but I am unaware of her having a blog. She strongly encourages people with CF to take magnesium. She has done a lot of research on magnesium. Some of the things she talks about: Certain antibiotics, including zithromax and related drugs, compete with magnesium and tend to cause magnesium deficiency; The blood tests typically used to determine magnesium levels are really inadequate and even if you are within range you can develop a magnesium deficiency in as little as three days; A magnesium deficiency has been linked to the development of antibiotic resistant infections and those infections sometimes prove reversible if you treat the underlying magnesium deficiency, as was the case with her son.

I have some of her remarks on my website in part because I have worked hard on getting excess acidity under control and a magnesium deficiency will contribute to excess acidity since it is an alkaline mineral. I also have a link to a study that suggests that excess acidity is a big culprit in antibiotic resistant pseudo. Of course, this study was a drug study looking at quinine derivatives. I have mostly used diet to treat myself for excess acidity. It has helped me get off several anti-inflammatory drugs.
