A note about socialized medicine...

let me say i am a registered republican (although that will probably soon change), but i cannot see how anyone with CF or a loved one with CF can be against health care reform. Christina, you have dd508? In 5 years you will probably be on vx 770 and 809 and hopefully it will save your life. Do you know those drugs are EACH expected to cost over $100,000 per year? That means at least $200,000 a year for those 2 drugs for you. if, like most private policies, you have a $1 million lifetime cap, you will get those drugs through your insurance for a whopping 5 years.

And as for government coming between you and your doctor, my child's CF doctor wanted him to have RSV shots for the entire RSV season, which here is 7 months. Blue Cross, however, decided that my 2 year old only needed it for 5 months so i will either shell out $6,000 for the two extra months or risk my kids life. I do not see how Obamacare would put the government between you and your doctor, but for those that are of that thought, do not think that insurance companies coming between you and your doctor is any better

I think everyone want some kind of reform in healthcare. Unfortionately the one on the table is not sufficient. It addresses nothing that is the route cause for inadequate care or costs.
Everyone that says they want reform only thinks about their bottom line. The folks against it are thinking about theirs. Who is right?

I agree the insurance company has more say in care than they should, I don't think that will change. I think we'll add a government in between...I'm not happy with my insurance either, I just don't want to replace it with an unknown evil.

What if gov't runs our health-care and won't pay for a particular life-saving procedure because it's too costly or not available in our country---where are we going to go? Will we have any recourse if the govt refuses to pay for something?
If so, how long do you think that's going to take to dispute something & then get an answer back? Maybe our Canadian friends could let us know how that works...

I actually am pretty fortunate, I do not have a lifetime cap through my insurance, that is if my husband continues to work for the same company and continues to pay the same premium monthly. In this area, I consider myself extremely blessed. I completely understand the heart of those who want change, I want change, and I want those without insurance to have an option- but not how it is being offered. Just like Landy has said, I truly believe there are ways to go about it without government taking over. I have heard many stories about Canadians coming to the US for different treatments that they could not receive in Canada.

True reform must be based on a few American principles including; patient choice, supremacy of the doctor-patient relationship, fiscal responsibility, INDIVIDUAL responsibility, privacy (the government should not even have access to patient medical information), access for all citizens, and of course, limited government involvement.

I know that all of us have many different views and beliefs that can be argued over and over, back and forth. I don't vote with only one side. I take a step back and in many cases have voted both Republican and Democrat.

I just know that if our government can't even find a way to make Medicare or Medicaid work...and they are continuously losing doctors because of the government's reimbursement or lack thereof...I just don't see the good in this. I see doctor's leaving, people taking advantage, and the government running us into an even more massive hole of debt.
