A question on my new treatment.

I would think any substance taken into the lungs that can be absorbed via tissue, would be present in some amount in the blood stream.

You are dead on. And I said that in my post. There is some systemic exposure, but DRASTICALLY less than with IV tobra.

I'll look up the PI's for ya and get exact numbers to show you the huge differences in systemic exposure.

I use Tobi alternating with Colistin via neb. Tobi has irritated my throat which is a common side affect as well as some bronchial spasms. The taste is nasty also. By the end of the 2nd week both problems are usually gone. Everyone is different. Given that Tobi is widely used it would be easy for you to research it. Also I suggest when your doctor throws something new at you & moves on that you ??? it like hell. As SeanDavis has said....its up to us to take control, not just be robots & follow the sole direction of the medical community (well I reworded that a bit, but the idea is the same)!

My boys used to inhale the IV form of Tobra before they came up with the inhaled form (TOBI). I believe it is equally effective but the TOBI doesn't taste as bad. One of my boys gets very hoarse after about 4 days on TOBI, it usually goes away after 3 weeks but it is very annoying and irritating. His doctor told him some people get a fungal thing with TOBI.

DS is on tobi and DH usually hangs out with him and makes sure he keeps the neb mask on his face and says that during "tobi time" HIS throat feels scratching and nose feels raw. Liza

Personally I HATE TOBI...but do find that it's effective in lowering my pseudomonas levels. I also have the dry, irritated throat and very much dislike the taste in my mouth after nebbing the TOBI. I'm about to start another 28-day course tonight and am "looking forward" to it only because it will free up my sinuses quickly.

Good luck, Ender!

kiel,

i have been on tobi a couple of times. i know that i don't like the taste, and i think there were times it made me short of breath. but honestly, i am not sure if i have just convinced myself it doesn't work well with me or if it doesn't really work well on me. i do know that i am averse to being on it.

I cannot take Tobi- because I go into these bronchial spasms. The signs were a irritating dry cough but one that would not stop- once I started coughing i would cough for about 1/2 hour and couldn't stop- when I told my doc she took me off.

Ender, how is the throat? Did my Chi find your throat? If you feel better, I will say it was because of my Chi entering your throat. Please let me know.

I'm sorry, the thought of anything belonging to Sean entering Kiel's throat makes me chuckle. But I guess you have to have somewhat of a twisted, dirty mind (like me) to get a laugh out of it!

I tried inhaling Tobi once and never again, because after about 1 week I lost my voice and could only whisper. Although I stopped the Tobi, my voice didn`t come back for five weeks! It finally came back, when I started to take Voltaren tablets.

Sorry Sean, I got home and just died on the couch.

As for your chi, I'm not quite sure. Yesterday it was kinda red and swollen, but it's feeling a bit better today. Maybe it worked?

Thanks for your suggestion about looking at it with the mirrors. I never would have thought of that!

Is chi some sort of therapy?

It can be therapy, but it has to be receptive. Chi is like foreplay for the spirit realm. Your brain might be very ready for my Chi to enter your body, but if the Chi is just broadcast towards your body without the proper prep foreplay, it won't get that deep into your body, and in turn will experience what I like to refer to as "chaffing". All sides of my Chi weren't readily accepted into your body, and in turn the outter area of my Chi has been rubbed raw. You must begin your Chi broadcast with very positive field energy stating how wonderful the other persons Chi field looks at that time, that their Chi field hasn't let themselves go, and similar approaches. With practice, and knowing what to broadcast, it can work great!

Hi voiceless in Ca signing on to say:

tobi is harsh on my throat and vocals and right after inhaling I
frequently experience a "tightening" feeling in my chest.
It doesn't last long and I have to say the benefit of the tobi far
outweighs the nuisances. (on a scale of 1-10 I give it a 9 SD, my
PFT's are sucktastic)

When i originally started I wanted to quit because it was soo
irritating but my Dr. has this annoying way of cajoling me into
giving the most unpleasant things a try (that possibly reads really
bad...mind out of gutter please). Anyway after the first week
i noticed I felt better and by week 2 i was sold. Now I think
i feel soo much better by day 3 when i start and personally hate
the months I'm off....can't breath.....seeing spots....must have
tobi......

Everyone is diff. I'm currently on the attack plan of
thin it out with pulmozyme (divide), shell it with tobi
(conquer) and hose it down with OO (clean up crew). Delicious
(be sure to wash out your mouth after inhaling all that crap
and drink something for you throat, it doesn't fix it but it helps)
