ABPA & Xolair

All you can read my blog about how it came about but I am getting to start on Xolair for ABPA. I am very excited about this. I had asked my CF docs and they said no so I just want to say if you go to an allergy doc (what I did) they might be willing to try it. I will continue blogging about my results with the medicine. There have started to be some small studies in using it with ABPA in CF.

Since my IGE's have remained stable for past couple years, at low hundreds it is dr's hope that Xolair will take it down to almost non-detectable levels. We will wait and see!

Nicole,
what would be considered ABPA? I ask because my daughter starting culturing it in February. She has had an increase in cough, but I have felt it could be due to allergies. She was tested for allergies in the beginning of April, and was highly allergic to many trees, but also allergic to molds, specifically aspergillus.
Her IGE levels went from 270 in 2006 to like 780 in February when tested. Her CF doctor hasn't seemed too concerened with it.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Great news Nicole. I'm going to bookmark this topic and hope you'll fill us in on your progres with Xolair. I culture aspergillus but do not have elevated igE levels. If I remember correctly my number was 89. I do like to learn about this stuff though in the case that I become reactive.

There is another pretty good link describing ABPA and it's diagnostic criteria. Technically over 1000 is ABPA but I would definately be concerned about such a drastic rise and the fact that her # is getting close to 1000. That being said IGE reading are 'flaky' in fact that they can be all over the place depending on a # of factors. I would educate yourself on ABPA, Xolair, allergy testing adn then continue to note your duaghters symptoms as it sounds you have been doing and have a candid conversation with your doctor.

Feel free to PM me or post any additional questiosn adn your progress, will be interested to hear.

Good luck!

NO no no, you did not take over. That is specifically why I posted it was to tell others and help out if perhaps someone was thinking of it but didnt know how to go about it!

One thing I have to look up is now about breastfeeding and taking it. The studies were decent on pregnant women but of course little out there on affects of breastmilk but I have a couple good sources to look into yet.
