Acid reflux and hemoptysis?

Just wondering . . .

I completed IVs several weeks ago and got c-diff. I had to go off of my reflux medications due to the c-diff.

I've had the worst heartburn for the past two weeks. I've also had two incidences of coughing up blood, which hasn't happened to me for some time. I wonder if the reflux could be irritating my lungs?

Has anyone had this happen? I guess the blood could be good old CF, but I can't help thinking about the connection between going off the reflux meds and the blood.

Any thoughts, experiences? Thanks.

IMHO the acid definitely could be aggrivating the lungs enough to cause a bleed.

I have noticed since switchin from Nexium the difference in how my lungs feel so yes the acid control is very important.

Granted that there might be an underlying infection brewing, but I feel the acid irritated it!

Aspiration of gastric juice (sometimes nocturnally, so you don't even know it's happening) can cause all types of havoc in the lungs.

I was having night sweats for nearly a year - couldn't figure out what in the world was problem.

Turns out I was aspirating gastric juice at night - I doubled my PPI and the night sweats went right away.

Jazzysmom and saveferris,

I really appreciate both of you replying. It just makes me feel better getting your opinions on this. Saveferris, I too got a DVT from a picc. It's in my neck. I took the shots for a year and finally the doc told me I could stop. They weren't doing any good. I hope yours is gone or goes away quickly.

Thank you for your responses.
