Melissa,
I'm in Pa. I've been on all 4 of those antibiotics in the pumps at one time or other in the past 10 years. I have Health Partners as my insurance, and Home infusion is the service i am on. The one i am doing now .... Cipro .... takes 90 minutes to run thru , which is probably the longest running one i have ever had. The merepenim only runs 30 minutes so the ball is much smaller. My home infusion nurse told me, some insurances dont want to pay for the eclipse balls because they may be more expensive and some medicines cannot be mixed till right before you use them. Now in that case i can see why they wouldnt use the eclipse balls . They send me 4 days worth at a time because once mixed the medicine is only good for a certain amount of days ( refrigerated of coarse). Sometimes it takes a little nudging from your doctor to get them to use the balls. You could have your Dr. say something like....... If Melissa uses the eclipse balls she is more likely to remain active which in turn could help her to get better faster and require a shorter course of iv antibiotics (which would save them $$$$) .
