IV Therapy reminds me of Chemotherapy in ways. Both are taking are of a certain problem (iv's for bacteria/chemo for cancer), but in doing so are also running your body & immune system down or putting such a toll on it that it cant bounce back.....

That is often why it takes awhile for us to "feel" better even after finishing our treatments....

Chemotherapy is what most docs refer to our abx for CF. Chemotherapy was first used to describe antibiotics to treat micro-organisms long before cancer ever came into the picture...or at least, treatment for cancer.

Wiki says this....
Chemotherapy, in its most general sense, refers to treatment of disease by chemicals that kill cells, specifically those of micro-organisms or cancer. In popular usage, it usually refers to antineoplastic drugs used to treat cancer or the combination of these drugs into a standardized treatment regimen.
In its non-oncological use, the term may also refer to antibiotics (antibacterial chemotherapy).

With this definition it should ring even more true with people that we must replenish our minerals and vitamins after treatment. Remember, most of these drugs cannot work with our most needed alkaline forming minerals...calcium, magnesium, potassium. Be aware they leach these from your body. Pretty soon, you will be low in them due to the drugs, not just the illness. Magnesium deficiency causes asthma, muscle twitching, insomnia... chronic deficiencies of these minerals leads to osteoporosis, mental/mood changes....the list goes on and on.

If you aren't addressing the aftermath of the treatment, you are asking for your next illness or exacerbation to be worse.... that is the way the body works, folks.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
