Etabetac,

Maybe you would like to know what my doctor thinks about asthma symptoms. Often, people have NO symptoms. Many people don't even feel anything until they get down to under 50%FEV1. because we actually use only one lung. One lung is the "reserve."

So even if you don't feel it, asthma is quietly doing it's damage. The idea is to protect what you have and not wait for inflammation to take hold, scarring, coughing or the other symptoms. Some people erroneously think you need to wheeze or retract when you have asthma. Not true. If you are on asthma medicines, you have asthma -- swelling of the airways, and/or constriction.

So, you might want to consider protective measures now. For patients who don't want to use a mask, my doctor suggests either a silk mask or scarf.

And in some ways you are lucky to know what allergens bother you. Mine are more chemical sensitivities (most CF'ers's have that -- you noticed it with bleach) and I have to guess.

Look around and you will start to see even more triggers. Nail polish, hair dye, certain stores with strong chemical odors like shoe stores, tire stores -- all harmful to your lungs.

You are lucky your lungs are good now. Remember, you want to preserve as much lung function as possible.
