Heh... Just one comment I have to make. Get boobs, and then talk to me about doing the Vest even though you hate it.

I'd rather have the master instructor throw me on the mats a few good times!! At the right angle, gets the lower section of the lungs real good!!
I may research the idea of the wife clappin' on me (as long as she doesn't start turning it into a 'whippin'!) in the lower section, but I think the Judo and Aikido had kept me fairly clear (and within a good weight range) all these years!
I don't get the vest, flutter, nor even (still) have that "rackety old" percussor with the adjustable speed (probably state of the art in 82)!
Do they sell vests that come with the 'boobs'??

I believe the best method is Autogenic Drainage (done correctly) I think it is also known and PEP breathing. I use this when I'm ill in addition to my normal tools. Also, huff coughing is part of this and is great.
I use daily the Vest and Acapella. Acapella is much better than the flutter.
For children I think manual physical therapy is best - They can't prove the power of touch but I think it is very healing and great bonding time. The Vest is too strong for kids in my opinion.

My old percussor just died on me. I got this awesome one at Sharper Image yesterday. It actually has different programs on it that create patterns of pounding. It can pound light and hard at different times, quick then slow or constant jack hammer type. There's also a heat option that is pretty cool because my back muscles get so tired with all the coughing and the heat really helps my back feel better. It's a little heavy of a machine, not too bad, and I really like it. I also like how wide the surface area is because I feel it's covering more area than the one my insurance paid for and is now dead. I'm trying to do the vest in the mornings and this percussor at night.

My daughter, 26 with CF, depended for most of her life on us, her parents to do her chest physiotherapy. So her independence was constantly compromised and she hated it. On other hand, we not always delivered a good physiotherapy, simply because were tired, or didn't have all this time required or simply being sick. Sure, you know all of this ...
Many times I was thinking about a simple solution, which would deliver a good physiotherapy and wouldn't require a caregiver. And I am very happy, I could do it. My daughter uses my ePer 100 (stands for electrical percussor, and 100 symbolizes all my percussion ideas which were never realized) all the time. According to her it is much better than the human hands and she can do it alone. And I got good review from the Hospital for sick Children in Toronto. Hopefully, I?ll be able soon to put them on my web page. As you can see on http://www.eper.ca , Eper 100 is very simple and very effective. It can be gentle, so it is suitable for quite young children and firm as it is required for teenagers and adults.
Now, I want to send my message to all CF people, who use manual physiotherapy. Eper 100 is definitely worth of trying. I am willing to give you a promotional price, so I can get the device out for needed people and get their direct opinions. I am sure they will love it.

i use the flutter twice a day. i do hypertonic saline and albuterol first; it does a good job helping me get more stuff out afterwards. but really, the most important thing that i do is exercise. when i am doing that 4 times a week i feel great, even skipping some treatments. oregano oil has also made my life easier, airway clearance wise. the other thing i like about my flutter...very portable.

If it was up to me and I had the time and/or money I would get a nice percussor or have someone do manual CPT.

Instead I use the Acapella or Pari PEP. I love the Acapella...100x better than the flutter!

All I have to say about the vest is that they didn't make it for women with boobs, especially not women with big boobs!

I am convinced for me that manual CPT is the best for me.. but I don't have anyone to do it at this point so I am going to try the flutter... It is in the mail and on its way to me.. I think that coupled with the vest will help..

For instance, tonight I was out with the girls to at work and I was real close to my bosses house. I was drinking wine and wanted to have another glass but knew I had over an hour drive so my boss asked me to sleep over her house.. WHICH I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO DO... LOVED.. BUT of course I had to go home because I didn't have my vest..and I couldn't get away with it..besides for myself. my friends are hyper cautious and would have freaked.... so having a flutter in my pocketbook would be great...

BTW I made a raindate with her for a wedding that I am going to be in in two weeks.. she is going to drive me and have me sleep over.. FUNNNNNNNNNNNN.. cept for the vest part..( now I just have to pray.. I take the right amount of enzymes and that I don't have a coughing fit while at her house)..

Message for LOU LOU or for anyone else who uses autogenic drainage or active cycle of breathing

Could you tell us how you do this type of therapy.

I am very interested. I have my own way of doing huff coughs but want to hear how you do them.

After a transplant it is good to keep on top of your health by clearing any secretions. I feel I have avoided many unnecessary colds. thankfully I am very healthy but want to stay this way so anything new i can learn all the better

I've just starting using the Acapella, and am not sure I'm doing it right? I was expecting it be more of a stronger vibration, but it seems pretty faint. Any hints?

I was also told that the vest is not available here in Canada. I do manual CPT on both my boys, half an hour on each, three times a day. They also use the pep after every physio treatment.

Liz, you may be correct abot the vesy not being avilable
in Canada, I have afriend and She came down to the states
about a year ago and bought a used one from a friend,
She also Got NEW LUNGS 12/05 and is Doing Wonderful........

The perrcusser, or ( THUMPER) as I call it has been around since the
early 70's, the first one I had was made from a Saber Saw with
the blade removed and refitted with a rubber Cup covered in
thin leather, Still works Great, and my Mother always did the
Hand PT or Beat me up as I called it, Some of the Older way are
still some of the best, I think it is Great that Your Boy Friend Helps
You with this, my X B**ch would always complain that it was noisy
or her arms hurt from using the machine, and she hated the Nebs
she said it didn't smell good, I told her she should try it from my side of the Neb cup.... sorry I got off track,,,,,,,,,,

I think this would be awesome to use with the vest. Try to huff cough while using this exerciser. <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forarms.com/

Got mine on qvc for a little less money.

I have one myself and used this so I know it works great with huff coughing.

Going to buy another one with a heavier weight.
