I either use the electric purcussion, or my boyfriend does the manual clapping for me on my back. I use the flutter on occasion, or on my good days. I don't think we have the vest available in Canada or the Acapella. If we do (and I'm not aware of it), then it has to be super expensive and not covered by insurance or the gov't.</end quote></div>

Liz I'm from Winnipeg too I just move to Alberta about 5 months ago and they have both the Vest and Acapella the vest you have to buy or order from the states. Some people that I have heard of have socials to raise the money in order to get the vest, I think there are other way of get help to get a vest to. Theres an orginization that will either help you fundraise the money or offer to help pay for part of if I'm not to sure and sorry I can't remember the name of the orginization, but I think ithe oginization is Down Town some where. And the Acapella should be free to you I have one and I got it from my Physio Therapist in Winnipeg, maybe you know him his name is Greg. Anyways I got it the last time I was in the hospiltal January 2005 I've had it for a little over a years And it works great so much better than the flutter I thought to flutter kinda suck, it didn't work for me at all. You should talk to your doctor about the Acapella if your Doctor is Dr. Kepron he should know what it is because when I got it I told him about it and he hadn't really heard much about it at the time. When I got it I think it was kink of a new thing at the hospital. Anyway I thought I would let you know you do have other options. I for one like the Acapella I use that and the purcussion I personally think the Acapella work better for me though. Although if I had to chose anything manual clapping works the best for me, but my husband is to lazy to do that so that why I use the purcussion I wish the vest was covered I would love to try using that for even just a change for a while.

I thought healthcare was free in Canada? The Vest isn't?

Healthcare is free Amy - but some of the machines are not. The vest is new here in Canada, so I guess you have to order it. I know my clinic doesn't have it, so I can't get it free. It's like a prescription. SOme people pay for them.

Interesting.

Are you on Tobra instead of TOBI cuz it's cheaper as well?

Just curious <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> I'm not that familiar with Canada other than some people in the US want our healthcare system to be like Canada's.

I don't pay for any of my meds at all. I'm on an old plan that carried me over when they made new changes to it. Anyone that isn't a senior I think can't be on it anymore because they changed it to a seniors plan. Its kind of complicated. Its like there's a glitch in the system that can't be fixed, so I'm on the plan by default.

I think my doc thinks I pay for my meds though, that's why he gave me Tobra, cause he did mention that its cheaper. I might have to set him straight to get the TOBI.

Health care is of course, but no the Vest isn't, because you have to order it from the states. If you have a good health plan like through work or something they might help you out with getting one, but there are other ways of you get one. Like I said in my first posting. Anyways if you know Liz I talk to her about some of this, she can let you know what I said. Or if you want I can private message you what I told her? Just let me know here or you can private message me and let me know that way. I hope this hleps you! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I only recently went on a crusade to try and get my hands on the
Vest here in Australia after hearing all the positive feedback on
it from this forum, but it is not available anywhere, I was so
frustrated! Each avenue I tried was a dead end, I ended up sending
an e-mail to the US manufacturers who informed me that it would
cost me around AUS $16, 000 to bring one over here, which I
simply cannot afford. The Acappella is also not available here, so
I'm stuck with the Flutter which is better than nothing I suppose
(but like the other posts said, nothing beats hard core exercise
and daily too, to clear the lungs!)

I just want to add my $0.02 here to say that as a child, I refused to do CPT. Refused. My parents had to catch me and wrestle me to the ground and then hold me down to do them. I hated it. HATED. So, they put me on a swim team instead. the exercise worked like a charm and cleared me right out. I don't know if exercise that strenuous is something you can do, but it might be a nice alternative to other more costly avenues - or if not an alternative, a supplement. I credit a lot of my health ot being very physically active as a child.

"Alternate CPT other than the Vest?"

Running from the cops when I was young always brought up a ton of goo for me.

There is a breathing technique that I've just learned in hospital the other day. According to my physio guy is works really well when you've got a lot to cough up. I've got a sheet all about it that I'll try to get on here at a later date. I've tried it and it does help. I'll have to post about it later on though, cause I don't have the sheet with me.
