hello all, i was just wondering, if anyone has any tips or advice
for fatigue. just lately i have realised that i am always tired!
and it's really starting to bug me. even though i eat well n
my height (5ft 7) and weigt (123lbs) is good, i never seem to have
any energy. im home from school today because i am so lethargic and
slept 13 hours last night, however despite this i still woke up
this morning, and even after a shower n everything, felt like i
hadn't slept at all. has anyone got any advice on maybe foods i
could eat or just anything that will give me some energy. its
starting to affect things like school n my social life as i can
never be bothered doing anything, i just have no energy. i also
always seem to have headaches but im not sure whether this is
related :S ??       thanks xx

1. Allergies can make you tired. If your body is constantly fighting a begign agent like pollen or dust, your body's resources are being depleted and you're tired. Have you ever had a full allergy skin test work up? This could be the reason for the headaches as well.

2. Infection. You may not feel so, but youmay have a bug growing. Get a sputum culture and have your white blood cell count tested.

3. Anemia. You can get that tested as well

4. Heat. The heat an kick anyone's butt - but a CFers in particular. Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration can make you tired. What about your salt intake?

Hope this helps <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

thanks for the suggestions amy!! the allergies i guess could be a
possibility and no i've never had an allergy test. i will also get
a culture done soon opefully and ask my doc about the blood cell
count. although i had blood drawn at my admission last month so
they probably would have detected something like anemia (i think)
if  there was a problem. as for the water :S i am a bit slack
with that i never drink as much as i should so i will try and make
the effort!!! i do take salt tablets though, but heat isn't a
problem as i am from melbourne australia where it is currently
winter. and freezing. LOL. thanks again for the help

It could be a number of things but perhaps you are getting too much sleep? As soon as I sleep over 8.5 or 9 hours I end up really tired. I am also much better getting up early (say 6:30am) than later (9am). Perhaps your body clock is out of whack? :S

With the headaches.. I usually get them when I'm slightly dehydrated also!

lack of vitamin B12, can cause fatigue. My wife has this and she has to get a shot every month to replace it, it seems to have done the trick and her fatigue is not so bad now.
Good luck

You might want to have your oxygen levels checked during a 6 minute walk and thru a sleep study. If your O2 levels o low when you are sleepin then you neve feel rested and you can get headaches.

All of these comments are important things to look into. I would suggest going to your doctor and asking for some blood tests. It could be your sugar and if you ar sleeping too much your body can feel more tired than if you do not sleep at all.

The first thing that came to my mind when you said you are always tired was candida meaning somewhere in your body you might be fighting a yeast infection. You can have it anywhere and that can make you extremely tired like you have no energy to want to do anything.

I hope you are not depressed but if you are, I would see professional help.

I think it is great that you are recognizing that whatever you are experiencing is not normal and you can check it out and get to the bottom of things.

I hate to say it, but usually when I have trouble sleeping, its a
sign that an infection is brewing...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">  And it all starts with
allergies.

I had this problem a for a while and found out a couple months ago what was going on, my thyroid was low. There are other symptoms that go along with it, loss of memory, gaining weight, thinning hair, always cold, to name a few. Hope you figure it out soon.

I have had this occur to me a few times in my life (for extended periods of time on 2 occasions). Once in High School and once last year. In high school it was due to my blood sugars. I was so exhausted all day at school I could barely hold my head up. The thing about it being caused by my sugars was that it was accompanied by several other symptoms - blurry vision, frequent urination, always thirsty, weight loss and such. I was sleeping about 15 hours a day though. I would get ready for and go to school which was about 7 hours and I would eat dinner. The rest of the time I was sleeping - I couldn't even stay awake to do my schoolwork at home.

The other time I felt this kind of fatigue. I was literally rolling out of bed after 11-12 hours of sleep and fighting the urge to just lay there a few hours more. I was not getting enough oxygen. I ended up having a mucus plug of sorts (I am not trying to scare you by saying that - that was just my situation). My oxygen sats were about 89 or 90 with the blockage I had. Once I got that taken care of I started resting better and felt a lot better.

I have been feeling this way lately, but it has not been extreme. I get about 9 hours of sleep and am very groggy when I get up, but after moving around for about 30 minutes I am fine. I contribute the grogginess to my obnoxious cat that wakes me up 4-5 times a night, therefore causing me to not get a good nights sleep practically every night. When I sleep undisturbed I do not have the grogginess or excessively tired/fatigued feeling.

Hope you start feeling better soon and the doc can help you figure out what is going on.

With myself, this happened last year and turned out my iron levels were low. And honestly, I was also doing too much work-wise. Once I stopped over doing things I felt better. Stress can cause unbelieveable amounts of problems. But, if that has nothing to do with it, yes, check blood sugar levels, iron levels, etc.
This year, it happened again, for a shorter time, but this time I was actually coming down with something.
Regular sleep patterns can help alot too. I htink someone already mentioned that.
PS-Go to a good massage therapist for the headaches, if there are any in your area. The muscles in our neck (Scalenes) actually help with breathing, and because most of us with CF breathe very shallowly, and cough so much, these muscles can become shortened and tight. Muscles in the back of the neck and upper back can cause referral pain to the forehead, temples, behind the eyes, etc. Anyway, just a suggestion. I'm a little biased because I'm an MT.

Right at this very moment I feel like sleeping for a few but instead I am going to stretch my body out and will invigor it hopefully enough to restore my energy so i am no longer sleepy. The effort to exercise when you feel so tired is out of the question but a few stretches can really help.

When I looked at your age, I started to think maybe Mono.. Have you had a sore throat recently? Mono can cause headaches, fevers, body aches, and of course fatigue.

I have had mono in the past and when I get sick I get acute flare ups of it. It kills me, I could sleep, and sleep and sleep and sleep and wake up and go to shower and be so tired that I need a nap.

Just a different thought to throw in there.
