Thanks so much. I was also wondering why they couldn't just down there every couple months and suck it up. I knew there had to be a reason.

Aidan does Pulmozyne twice daily now and trying to teach him to huff cough. He only cultures Staph so I guess that is good. Thanks again

What about HTS? DS isn't on it, but I noticed last summer when the RT was trying to get a sputum culture and hooked him up to the vest using HTS how incredibly JUNKY ds sounded. He rarely coughs, rarely brings anything up and with that stuff he sounded like one of those oldsters with a 4 pack a day cigarrette habit.

"Thanks so much. I was also wondering why they couldn't just down there every couple months and suck it up. I knew there had to be a reason. "

I dream of that every day <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

But yes, we all have it. And definitely think of coughing as a good thing. For instance, when I had my last kidney stone and went to the ER, they gave me morphine. The next day I felt like CRAP. It took a couple of days to recover because the morphine had suppressed my need to cough and the little bacteria got all happy and went crazy in there. However, I was so miserable the morphine was worth it.

As my doctor told me, coughing is a great way to get bacteria, etc out of there. I asked him why coughing was 'good', and his explanation was that every bit of mucus I get out of there has so much bacteria in there, that it's the most effective way to get them out of my system. Makes sense to me.
