ambry testing

in june my fiance had the full ambry testing done. i was pregnant with his child and my doctor practically made us have the test. we weren't going to have it done becuase i was already pregnant and i wasn't going to terminate the pregnancy do to positive results.

the results came back as negative. his insurance is asking about his pre-existing condition now. well he doesn't have a pre-existing condition. my doctor said that his insurance would cover it as long as they knew they were testing for the outcome of his child.

the testing cost $3190.00 and we do not want to be stuck with that bill. i have sent the letter back to his insurance with no pre-existing condition checked off. i am going to give my doctor hell if his insurance doesn't end up covering it. because if it would have been up to me and dustin the test would have never been done.

but then we would have probably gone throught the same mess when morgan was born because we would have wanted her to have the full ambry testing done and she is on his insurance too. so who knows. lets pray they cover it.

Insurance probably won't cover it if it is not for diagnostic purposes (meaning he is symptomatic for cf). We wanted my DH fully tested but didn't do it for this reason. We weren't even sure mine would be paid for because it was done before I had a sweat test and CF clinic visit.

I believe our insurance paid for Amelia's blood test even though she was born healthy. But that was only for our known mutations and cost $300.

Uhg! I'm sorry you're dealing with this. In the future if there is ever a question about your insurance covering something then call them and ask about it yourself. I do this all the time. Its how I knew that I need a scrip for accupunture.

Yeah, sorry Haley, they are going to give you a heck of a time if they cover it at all. You might try if they deny it to get them to cover the amoutn they woudl cover for the smaller test they do for carrier screening, then negotiate with Ambry who will charge you I believe $1300 for testing if you pay out of pocket which should make your bill a bit more manageable. I had a heck of a time getting my daughters full panel covered and it was for diagnostic, they still didnt want to pay because she was not showing sighs--ugh, I didnt for how many years? Anyway more details about what I did on my blgo if you are interested though all of work was before test so doubt too much would be helpful now.
