i dont know really where to begin. i feel like ive been run over by a mac truck. i have mentioned to some that my husband was being tested for the cf gene...... results came back positive. he carried the DF508.... we are more alike than we thought. my mutations are Double DF508. so i guess my concern or question is there anyone here who has cf and has had spouse test positive for cf and decided to have a child .... and did their child of cf and if so how do they feel.... lol i hope that makes sense. its a huge run on sentence. PM me if you like i just dont really know where to turn. i dont have anyone to talk to about it. my mom can only semi relate because she didnt know she was a carrier until i was born.

Just FYI, the math on that is as follows:
You have a 50% chance your child will be a carrier
You have a 50% chance your child will have CF

So the percentages go up if you have CF, and your partner carries. Your child will at the very least be a carrier. The only genes you have to pass on are CF, so s/he will have at least one.

I would advise against it, but I'm not you. There are other options, though. IVF (with PGD, it allows the docs to test the embryos before they implant, so they can only implant the healthy ones), adoption, or you could use a sperm donor.

I wouldn't chance it either. But AGAIN, that's just me. My hubby and I agreed if he was a carrier, it would be a definate NO GO..but we haven't tested him, because I am not well enough to go through a pregnancy or commit to a child.
Just my $0.02!

If it was me no I wouldn't chance it. But at the same time I am also at a point where having children is out of the question anyway. If I was a lot healthier and really really wanted a baby I may change my mind.

It is all up to you and your hubby. While alot of us may not want to risk bringing a baby into the world with CF, it may be your dream to have a child and then you should dig down deep and see if you could deal with taking care of a CF baby and yourself. Or like Emily said, there are other options with IVF and so on. If having a child is something you really want then I would discuss it with your DR and a OB and see what your options are. Personally I could never do sperm donors but that is just me.

Never give up on a dream until YOU decide its over.
