another having kids question

Besides the risk of having a child with CF there are other things to think of.

Pregnancy/toll on your health (even if not the pregnancy....the after care).

IF you have a child with CF there is the cross contamination issue that IMHO can be more of a problem when its a Mom/Child relationship.

I am sorry to hear about this obstacle.....Good Luck with what you decide!

It is such a personal decision as you know. No one could have kept me from having a baby. I was healthy with no other complications. So there was no reason not to have a child in my eyes. I was destined to be a mom and would have spent my whole life in a state of under conscience misery. If you know what that means. My most inner being had to experience motherhood because I was healthy. PFT's were 100%. Now it is a totally different story. Now I have accepted that I really do have this disease CF; you know the one I got to ignore most of my life. Now I am very concerned because my health has decreased not only with age but also having to take care of my family. You don't know what life is going to throw atchya. Would not have changed the course I have taken at all. Make sure that you do have a supportive family near by because I could not do it without my parents helping me. They deserve a big pat on the back.

Just to agree with Mel about the cross contamination issue. There's a lady on here with cf and her daughter has cf. She feels her daughter's cf has progressed faster due to living with her. I also may be in this situation one day myself since I have cf and my son does too. My dh carrier tested negative for 89 muts prior to conception. My ds was sequenced and found to carry two cf genes. He is presently without symptoms but none the less we carry the burden of having another cfer and doing all the cf care for preventative reasons. Personally, I'm glad I had Isaac but if I had been told dh was DF508 I wouldn't have had a child. There's also been at least two people on here (non-cfers) who found out inutero that their baby had DDF508 and decided to abort. One current member who has a mild form of cf (DF508 and a rare mutation), has a husband who has DF508. They aborted at least one before having their cf free child. PM me if you want her name. Personally abortion isn't for me but I thought I'd mention it. IVF with PGD is expensive.
