Another Hearing Question

Due to the years of Tobra & some issues of balance during an admission I get regular hearing tests. They all say I am "normal". YET I have sligh "noises" in my ears. I tend to have white I think of as "white noise" like from the television and then something will "pop" and it goes to a real faint ringing. I notice it more when its quiet in the room, but its there. I also have difficulty with different "tones". My husband who is a very quiet speaker I constantly ask to repeat himself. Jazmine can be speaking softly, but because her "tone" is different I can understand her fine. As a matter of fact I can distinguish what she says from another room yet have problems understanding my hubby in the same room. He thinks its "selective hearing", but I swear its not. My brother has severe ringing (cant remember the official name) and it drives him nuts so he has to have noise of some kind. His is from working with power equipment for years or so he tells me, but now I am not sure if it was said that by a doctor or not. ANYWAY so how many have been told there hearing tests are fine, but notice things with their hearing?

I have not had a hearing test done in a long time but I do get the ringing in my ears sometimes and I do have my husband repeat himself sometimes too. its like I hear that he is talking but sometimes cant make out what he says almost like his words are mumbled together.

Melissa-
Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) can also be caused by cochlear damage, but there are other causes, like dehydration. Here is some info:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.asha.org/public/hearing/disorders/Tinnitus.htm
">http://www.asha.org/public/hea...isorders/Tinnitus.htm
</a>
Also, when you get your hearing evaluations done, what exactly are they like? Do they only do the "raise your hand when you hear the tone?" There is another test that checks for speech reception. It sounds like you are having trouble hearing low frequency sounds. Low frequency loss is typically not cochlear. Have you had trouble with fluid in the middle ear? ear infections? wax?

Tinnitus.....that is the word I couldnt think of. They just do the normal wear the headphones & raise your hand when you hear the tones. No ear infections or known problems with fluid or wax. I will look into the links thanks.

You should ask your audiologist for a speech threshold/ discrimination test. If you mention that you are having difficulty with certain voices, I am sure they will offer it. ;-)

I also have tinnitus. And a sort of "white noise" like you have described. I also hear chirps and clicks when I forget to take one of my AD meds on time.
