Another one from me...PA from shower steam?

I've heard a couple things on this. One was from a doc a few years ago that said that yes, it is in our water and so if its steam form and we breathe it in, we likely can get it.

However, when I mentioned that to my more recent doc, she said she sure "HOPES NOT"... that municipal water sources should be treated for p.a. and its unlikely the water would harbor p.a. she said that's not water "she'd like to drink or shower in". So, not sure that helps you a lot, but I personally think there is no way to completely assure us p.a. is not in our water, along with all the other contaminents found in water and steam.

I think p.a. is in dirt as well and have been told several things from not to garden to wear a mask when gardening cause it will kick the dirt up in your face and you breathe it in, blah blah...

I do fret over such things as this is just my style, but I also know there is only so much we can do. Holding my breath while I shower and never sitting in my yard are two things I won't do. However, avoiding hot tubs and wiping down my gym equipment, etc. are things I can do to protect myself and I will do these things.

Great question!

I've thought (and this is just me of course) that while the pa is in the water supply, and that common sense would say that it is *possible* to catch it from a shower, that hot tubs (especially ones that are improperly cared for) are worse because of the constant heat and basically stagnant water (as opposed to the water in your hot water heater that gets run out and fresh water brought in on a regular basis), that the concentrations of pa would be higher, and thereby, more dangerous. Like I said, just me and my thoughts <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .

I've read about pseudomonas being in dirt too. The strain I have, pseudoal caligenes, is found in soil, at least. That's the reason why post-transplant patients should avoid gardening. Sounds wild.

I have thought about this alot also so when I saw this thread I did some research. Ultraviolet Water Purifiers are able to kill most of the bacteria, viruses, molds in water including PA. The UV dose needed to kill PA is 3900 microwatt seconds/cm2. Most point-of-use UV filters that I have come across generate much more than that. However they look rather large and are expensive...and definitely not portable.

Hopefully these links work. This is the first time I am posting any.
