another option for neb sterilization?

We use the Pari neb cups also and I boil them for 10 minutes after washing them in hot soapy water. Recently I had problems with the neb cup we use for pulmozyme - they got plugged up and the hose would pop off. Figured I must have gotten a faulty neb cup 'cuz I threw it away and the next one was fine. And even though I boil them before every use, after treatment times I rinse them off with hot water before tossing them in the sink-- sometimes Tobi, if left setting really gums things up.

We neb 3 times a day, pulmozyme once and tobi twice. So rather than boiling nebs several times a day, I just do it once a day and just make sure we have enough neb cups to use for each treatment, each med.

I do know people have suggested using the steam bags to sterilize breast pump parts in the microwave. They're reusable.

I boil for 10 mins as well. Also Faust, hard water clogs the nebs too. I soak the nebs in vinegar/water solution before about every 5th boiling to remove any hard water scale build up. Hope that helps. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hmmm, I've never boiled mine. I have always soaked them in hot water with vineger. I don't have any fancy nebs either just the cheap crap from the hospital that eventually cracks and leaks medicine all over my hand....fun, fun :)

Tanner has the Pari and another one (sidestream or something). He does Pulmozyme and albuterol. For the last few months I use the Germ Guardian - I LOVE IT! I always wash them in hot soapy water - rinse - then let dry. After they are pretty dry I stick them in the germ Guardian to sterilize using hot air. It takes about 30 minutes and then shuts off and I leave them in there til it's time to use again. I hated boiling - it always left a film on the nebs. I asked my doc about this and she said it sounded fine. I learned about it from someone here! I told another lady who has a son in college - he wasn't sterilizing good at all - so I told her he would love this.
