Another question about hypertonic saline

Another thought depending on current cost & insurance is to get it thru Foundation Care. They offer premixed HS with different % & size doses. Here is there link:

i mix the 10% with albuterol, but the 10% does come in the 15ml vials. i open a vial and use it for two treatments. if the end touches anything, i toss it out. maybe i shouldn't do this, my clinic told me it was okay, though.

My doctor was prescribing it so that I had to use all doses in the 15 ml vials...saving it from one day to the next. This made me uncomfortable (((germs))). So I asked that they re-write the script for 15 ml per day (since I only neb saline once a day). I use it once and toss it. I only use 3%.

Before you start tossing the extra make sure you have enough to get you through the month.

I usually mix a full 9ml (6 ml of the big vial, then a whole small vial [3ml]) according to the instructions I was given. I then put 4.5ml into my neb (I'm suppose to do 4ml, but I just figured heck I'll go halfway). I wasn't told anything about throwing out the leftovers. I dunno, I just figured heck, I store the vial where I store my neb and flutter valve, I'm not real worried about it. My brother throws the leftovers away. The deal is that I can ONLY fill this perscription where I have my CF appointments every three months, in Nashville two hours away. So I get a full 3 month supply and that's all I have to go off of.
I've started mixing 3ml of the big vial and 1.5ml of the small, I figure it would be harder for germs to get into the vial than into the tube.

Here is the info on Foundation Care:
Cost is $36 for 60 vials of 5ml of 7% Hypertonic Saline, that's a one month's supply and includes free shipping. Check them out at foundcare.com -- 314.291.1122 (St Louis Area) 877.291.1122 (Toll Free) They have excellent service.

With being on nebulized tobi and having them prepare it for me I now receive the prepared HS vials for free as well as the eflow. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks Jem. I looked into Foundation Care and they're not a pharmacy that my insurance will deal with. I don't mind the mixing -- my dr. got back to me and said mix 3 ml of one and 4 ml of the other -- I was concerned that he wanted me to nebulize 15 ml at a time -- no way! Turns out he wasn't clear in his instructions... I feel better now. You guys have been such a great help!!!! Sometimes I feel like I'm going nuts, and then I log on to this site and I feel so much better and know I'm not crazy after all!
