I was using prevacid and loved it. Prevacid worked great for me but several months after I started using it, my insurance changed and would only cover prilosec OTC. I've been using prilosec OTC (30mg) once a day for years now, and it works just as well as the prevacid did. The only thing I've noticed between the two is that prevacid will last a little longer if I forget to take it one day. I could have easily taken the prevacid every other day and had the same relief. If I forget the prilosec however, I notice it by the end of the day. On the occasion that I forget to refill my prilosec and run out of it, I'll take zantac just to get relief through a weekend or couple of days, but I don't think it works nearly as well as prilosec does, even though they're both over the counter.

My stepdad recently just tried a new one, Zegrid OTC (??) and said he didn't think it worked as well as prilosec.

Hope this helped, good luck!

I have been taking Nexium once a day for the past 6 months and it helps tremendously. I was starting to get heartburn/reflux just about everyday. Now I only get it if I forget to take the Nexium.

My DD used to take Zantac (nasty minty)syrup even though I preferred the Prevacid solutabs b/c they just dissolve on the tongue but they were so expensive because they were brand only and non-preferred with our insurance but I recently found out there is now generic Prevacid solutabs so I am switching her back to those they are soo much easier.

Also I think that Zegerid otc stuff is a joke, my husband has went through 3 courses of it, it's supposed to be taken as a 14 day treatment and you're supposed to be good for 3 months ,NOT, it only works while you're taking it as soon as the course is over heartburn returns.

I take famitodine (pepcid) once a day. But make sure you take a b complex vitamin apart from the ant-acid, as PPI's can negate the function of B vitamins. That's why you hear of hair loss and lack of energy, etc with their use.
