Antibiotic (I.V.) Experiences

I too tend to feel absolutely terrible for the first few days on IV's...sweats, continued temps and just BLEH all over the place. After that, I cough up lots of gunk, it's as if Draino was poured into my lungs and voila! I cough up loads for awhile and then I start to feel raw inside my lungs and sensitive. Anything triggers explosive coughing fits in this stage to the point where I have nebulized Lidocaine to numb those raw areas inside my lungs. After a few days of this (meanwhile, my rib cage is tender to touch from all of the coughing), it gets better and I start to feel more normal. The raw sensation goes away, my sputum gets thinner and less copious and I just feel better all around with the exception of the IV's side effects (nausea, diarrhea, kidney pains) that are managed with my good friends Zofran and or Phenergen (IV works wonders) and IV fluids if I become dehydrated. Usually, I am doing okay after 2 weeks of this, but sometimes it takes longer to clear the infection. The longest stretch of IV antibiotics was for over 2 months, I did feel like death for awhile...I did not think that I would ever turn the corner but I did.
Hopefully, this helps...I pray that the rest of your stay is uneventful..Hugs, Jenn <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
