What antibiotics are available to use against pseudomonas? I have tried Cipro and Levaquin and experience bad side effects from both of them. I know that there is inhaled Tobi and Colistin but besides that what else can be used?

What length of treatment time should be appropriate- I know that the same thing doesnt work for everyone -just trying to get an idea of what others do. My doctors always put me on 2 or 3 months at a time. For both an oral and inhaled an uses the same antibiotics over and over. I have only cultured pseudomonas off and on over the last couple of years and have never been symptomatic and PFTS are staying at my baseline. I am concerned that my courses of treatment are possibly extreme.

Pseudo will never go away - that's a fact. I don't see the point of taking meds for it, if you are not symptomatic and are feeling fine. I only take antibiotics when I am actually symptomatic, as Pseudo is always in out lungs and never goes away. My doc usually has me on two weeks of Cipro and either one month on, one month off of Tobra, or two weeks on, two weeks off of Tobra.

in hte hospital, there are several including Tobramycin, Fortaz, Ceftaz, etc.

And a lot of those can be done outpatient as well. I do home IVs almost 100% of the time I'm on IVs.
