Any of you heard of this???

One of the 3 doc's that I see suggested that at some point I go in this year for a desensitization to some of the anti-biotics I am resistant too. I thought desensitizing was for allergic reactions?? Fill me in...

I have heard of this, but I am not 100% clear on it.

I think they do sort of what they do with allergy shots....give you a little bit of the drug, and then gradually keep increasing until your senstivity is gone.

Again, I am not sure about this, so don't go by me.

Yes, that is what they do. I'm allergic to penicillin, but when I was first diagnosed 25 some odd years ago, they wanted to put me on a "preventitive" daily antibiotic of oxacillin (if I remember correctly). They admitted me and did the "desensitization" by gradually increasing the dosages.

It's been quite a few years though so I don't know exactly the procedures they follow now.
Obviously they do things quite different as doctors have learned that the "preventative" antibiotic regimen isn't a good idea.
