Anyone have a private water well?

My parents have a water well at their house and are looking into filtration systems to make their water safer for my daughter. I've been reading about UV and reverse osmosis, but I thought I'd consult with you all before I contact a 'know-it-all salesman' that doesn't know it all as far as CF is concerned. Thanks for any info.

We have a well (and live in a rural town where very few homes are served by public water supply.) I have wondered about how clean the water is too... We have a typical hard-water & sediment filter, and there was a test of the water before we moved here that indicated the water was safe to drink- but we all know those tests are not particularly specific and I want a filter that would do more as well. But city water has pathogens in it too so I am really not sure which is the lesser of the two evils! I'll be interested in seeing what info you get here.

i have a private water well at home too but i go to school in a city. i've always prefered the well water, though i can't say if one has fewer health risks. my skin breaks out worse from the city water and i've always taken that as a sign that the well water is better, but that's not so scientific :/

We have a private well & so do my parents. Besides the soft water & iron filter we don't have anything extra. We test our water at least 3 times a year for bacteria. I don't know what its like in the States but here in Canada the government pays for out well testing.
