Anyone know of cf'ers that have had heart attacks or "silent heart attacks"

The docs believe that I had a "silent heart attack" if fits with the pains, and the discomfort that I have been having...not a fun thing and if you can avoid it do...I don't understand why though I am in shape, I eat exceptionally well...no junk food, no chips (well maybe 5 bags a year...the baked kind) no fast food, and mostly no red meat, fish, chicken and bacon (10-15 times a year) I don't like to eat like I'm a 500lb dude...but I do like eating when I'm healthy and rarely turn down real home made food, but since I met my wife 4 years ago I changed her eating habits we cook with sesame oil, extra virgin olive oil (organic both) and eat mostly organinc foods...we have eated fast food 10 times since we met. I am really struggling to figure out a reason for having elevated cardiac enzymes in my blood and minor damage to my heart muscle...the only other thought is my lungs are getting worse and are stressing the heart into working over time to draw oxygen into by blood from my lungs...anyone with any input, knowledge...any help would be appreciated...this is getting scary, I have spent every other month in the hospital since October/November 2009...End of Oct/Nov, Jan, March and End of April/May

I have no advice or experience with this....but I wanted to say that I sure hope you start feeling better soon. You have had a really rough winter and you really do deserve a break! You are in my prayers.

Anyone know of cf'ers that have had heart attacks or

The only time I ever began having what I thought was a heart attack I had severely low potassium levels. I ended up having my dad and ex rush me to the hospital cause I literallyfelt like my chest was going to explode.

Before I was diagnosed with diabetes I would have episodes where my heart would race out of control when I was just sitting resting, I would start gasping for air and feel like I was choking. It would last for maybe 30 seconds at a time and I would be fine. about 6 months later I was diagnosed with diabetes. I developed the heart palpitations and such before I was displaying any obvious diabetes symptoms.

Also the oxygen issue is possible or they could run a test to check for pulmonary hypertension, with PH it is possible to get palpitations and feelings like mild heart attacks, so it is something to check into if nothing else seems to make sense. They did a right heart cath. on me pre-transplant and determined that was the source of my heart issues immediately pre-transplant. I had started to develop heart issues and had pulmonary hypertension from lack of oxygen.

I hope that you are able to work with your docs to figure out what is going on. With us there are so many underlying issues that could possibly be affecting our bodies that diet alone can not explain or disprove a heart attack.

Best of luck and I hope that you are able to get back on track health wise soon.

Prayer are with you.

Keep the faith, and remember anxiety can make things worse. Learn some meditation or listening to soft music to calm the feelings of being scared . Even the temporary relaxation techniques will help in the long run.

Hope your answers come in a timely fashion.

Interesting, This winter I had a silent heart attack. It was so scary and breathtaking. Just what I needed. It was brought on we think by a severe asthma attack due to a exacerbation. So no you are not alone in this. Be sure to ask your doctor why this happens you might be more satisfied with the answer coming from him. My understanding is complicated cause there were so many other things going on at the same time. It has been a hell of a ride this past year. The doctors put me on Asperin temporarily. It didn't work cause the asperin made me bleed. So now I am equiped with emergency drug for similar episodes just in case. My oh my we are a rare and special breed of people. haa haa. What we don't go through. I am happy to say things have settled down. I hope you get the information you need. My aim now is to avoid those horrible asthma attacks. Bypap has helped a lot.

Well i hadn't heard of it until yesterday, but we are in the process of possibly removing the right upper lobe (my daughters) and the appointment coordinator mentioned that they would be doing test on her heart to make sure that cf had not affected it. she said 9 out of 10 times it doesnt but anyway i was shocked.
