Anyone live in NC or TN???

I was just really surprised at the lack of cleanliness in public places, like restaurants and even in the hospital. This is a generalization of course, but in general places were not as clean as they are on the West Coast. We used to joke that we learned not to look at window sills or floors

I dont agree with that, being I have lived in NC my whole life and I have visited other states. What part of NC did u live in? I dont live in a big city (Raleigh, Charlotte, Durham, etc). Where I am, it's pretty clean in my opinion.

I live in NC. I go to Duke. The humidity can be an issue. NC weather can be a little weird as well. It can go from the 40s to 80s within a few days. Humidity stays around 80-100% in the summer months. It's April and we have already started getting low 80s, humidity in the upper 80s. In July it can get high 90s, but with a heat index in the low 100s. In the summer months I stay inside most of the time or go out late in the day. I try not to be out between 11am and 4pm. NC does not have "dry heat" like NV does. It can be "suck the breathe out of your lungs" type heat on some days. lflatford is right on the allergies/sinuses. Pollin can be terrible in the spring. It depends on how advanced your CF is, that will depend on how well you will handle it. I have lived in Eastern NC my whole life. To me, the heat and humidity is worse the more south you go.

Anyway, I am moving to South Carolina in Sept/Oct... and I wonder how the hot humidity is going to be for me as well..</end quote>

My uncle once lived in SC and I would go visit his family. To me, SC can be hotter than NC but he says he doesnt see much difference.

Oh I have seen that in some places. Unfortunately I can agree to some level. I thought you meant something else like the roads or environment.

We lived in Winston-Salem and Raleigh and noticed it pretty much everywhere we visited in the State (and also in SC)...I may just be extra sensitive to it though...

Oh, and I wanted say that we have considered moving back to NC because of the great CF doctors there (and housing prices )

No ur not extra sensitive. I understand what you mean. I have noticed it too, especially in Public Roadside Rest Areas, compared to other states.

hey jennifer,

i have lived in raleigh, n.c. for about 8 years. i moved here from michigan so it was a big change for me. honestly, the heat and humidity doesn't really bother me. a lot of people complain about it, but aren't they always complaining about something? i love it here. as a whole, i love the weather. i love being close to the mountains and ocean. i love the adult CF clinic at UNC.

i will say that allergies might be a consideration for some people. i have pretty bad allergies and i am fine with my allegra and flonase. i guess it depends on what sets you off. in the spring, the pine pollen can literally look like a dusting of yellow snow.

good luck with your decision.
