Anyone on Cyproheptadine?

My 5 yr old with cf just started this morning. He is to take 1/2 tsp 4 times a day. I know the doctor said it is something new. My son is still scheduled to get a G-tube on March 1st- I am kind of wondering if anyone had success with this drug. I wonder why the doctor didn't suggest staying on this for a month or so and seeing if it works, then if not doing the G-tube. Any suggestions??

Thanks

I'm on it. It did make me drowsy at first, but it wore off in a day or so (doc should tell you this). I've had moderate success with it. Doc increased my dose to 1 1/2 pills 2x per day. It's been hard for me to interpret the results since I've also been on an anitbiotic AND prednisone and we all know what prednisone does for your appetite! I'm more apt to think it's the prednisone working, but who knows? I've heard of people having success with the drug so it's worth a shot.

Vincent started it a few months back, one tsp. 2x a day. It has helped a little w/ his appetite. He is very picky, and would rather drink his calories. It has made him want to eat more instead of just drinking milk. He takes a dose before his nap and usually wakes up ready to eat. Nothing amazing as far as weight gain, but he does want to eat a little more. He was a little crankier the first couple days. Maybe if you see a big difference in his eating/appetite, you can ask the doctors to hold back on the g-tube? I hope it works for you guys!
