So I been taking the AquaAdeks and at first the only symptom was burping up the vitamins. Now I get the major Flush action going on my face, elbows and knees and sometimes on my arms. It is a blotchy rash and my face is hot. As I read some posts and talked to doctor I was told this is a reaction some CF people are getting. Is it dangerous??? I have tried to take one pill in the AM and one pill at bedtime and that seems to not give me the flush ....so far.

What is up with this Niacin stuff?????


Jennifer 35 years old with CF and CFRD

Edit: My one pill in the AM and one at PM is not working. I still get the flush. So not sure what I am going to do.

Yes my daughter had this reaction upon taking her first and only AquADEK. Pretty exciting (scary) stuff, watching your four year old experience it. Apparently it is harmless, just uncomfortable. My DH says back in the oilfield boom in Oklahoma guys would take it to mask illicit drugs from showing up when getting tested. So there you go!

Is this really harmless?? Cause, I love ADEKs and have some free bottles I got from Doc. I didn't mind the flush and it helped to separate the dosage. I would like to go back to taking them if the niacin flush is truly harmless. It really kind of scared me though when I took 2 without eating and turned bright red.

It is harmless as far as I've heard. My dad takes it for his heart(?), and he has had the same thing, and switched to some kind of Niacin that doesn't do the "flush" as bad. My mom laughed at him because she told him he was having a hot flash, and now he knew (somewhat) how she felt, lol <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .
