I too have the chalky thing going on with the nebs; but husband is going to check the salt after having read these posts. I had decided I was going to have to buy distilled water to boil nebs in, but we will look into the reverse osmosis system for under the sink.

I was buying distilled water to boil my nebs in because I too was getting the chalky thing on my nebs after boiling them. After doing this, lugging gallon jugs of distilled water home from the store and always having to have them on hand I decided to try using a Brita water filter. I bought a special pitcher with the filter and now use that filtered water to boil my nebs. And guess what? No, chalky anything on my nebs. It is so much more convenient to use this as it only takes several minutes for the water to run through the filter and now I do not have to lug gallons of distilled water home from the supermarket. It was also a cheap alternative. The filter lasts several months before it needs to be changed.

Hmmm... I've always wanted a brita or Pur water filter. This may be my excuse to get one! This chalky stuff all over the nebs and the pots I boil them in drives me nuts. It never occurred to me that it could be why the lids don't fit as well on the nebs. It'll prob make my water taste better too, everyone else says it tastes fine but I think it tastes off. (But who knows, I have almost no sense of smell so who knows if I taste things the same as everyone else)

Yay I love that the Brita works! My husband had suggested that just this evening - he thinks a reverse osmosis system costs lots of money.

And yes the kids take a flouride supplement; although I haven't done Katy's lately because I haven't asked her cf doc for clearance. Silly, isn't it, but you never know. The dentist prescribed the flouride for us.

Totally hijacked this thread! Sorry!

Thaks for responding though to my question. And I also just posted something to you in the Pari thread about poor Bubbles.

Ok I'll stop taking over the thread now
