I was wondering if any of you C.F. ladies have been told, because of our unability to absorb things fully, that your birth control needs to be at a higher dose? I am not on birth control at the moment, i am on progesterone alone..this is to hopefully stop all my periods, bc my coughing up blood is always during my menstural cycle. well i have been on this progesterone treatment now for 3 months...no period..no coughing up blood!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Until these past couple weeks... my period broke through and of course along with that has came the coughing up blood once again. So i asked my obgyn doc if it is possible that i am break through bleeding because i am not absorbing the whole strenth of the progesterone? Could this be?

p.s. i am already on a higher dose than most his patients and now he is having to up it again!

I was informed by my clinic that Oral contraceptives would not be adequate for CFers...because we dont digest fats and the BC (pill form) is fat soluble.

I have always been on either the patch or Nuvaring and liked them both very much. The patch was just more to remember than the ring...the ring I pretty much forget its there until the three weeks are up.

I dont have problems with bleeding though so I don't know. I DO know that my periods are much shorter with the Nuvarin (even shorter than the patch) and MUCH lighter, which makes me happier.

Good luck! I dont know if this will help you, but its another popint of view and maybe an option for you...

The pill always worked for me. Dh and I were together 9 years before tryign to conceive. Once off bc I got pregnant. Why not just cycle a regular bc pill to get the no period effect. Why progesterone only unless you feel estrogen compounds the shedding of the lung lining causing bleeds.

Now that I don't want to get pregnant I chose the paragard IUD. I wanted an option that had no additional hormones because upon researching I felt that perhaps it was actually the hormone therapy that was giving me the bleeds. I no longer have lung bleeds. Only streaking when I am starting to exacerbate sometimes.

thank you for your input and advice!! i tried the iud (mirena) and it was too excruciating to have placed..might could be sedated and try again. apparently my obgyn thinks that since i didnt cough up blood the whole time i was pregnant that high doses of progesterone may help. he believes i have pulmonary endometriosis...not for sure though..but if so, estrogen makes the endometriosis worse apparently...so he stuck with progesterone alone. i appreaciate you guys input..i am hoping the higher dose of progesterone will be absorbe and stop my spotting..therfore hopefully stopping my hempotysis as well.
