Glad you are feeling well. I would question your doctor on why you are not being treated for the MAI. I believe it is better to be proactive with treating this as it can turn quite nasty.

I hope it turns out you are not allergic to the aspergillus and that your bleeding does not return.

Almost all of the common bugs found in CF lungs are found in tap water and soil.
Aspergillus is found in the soil. It can be a problem for some people but most just live with it and have no complications.

I was found to have several of these bugs for the first time last spring which included one of the dreaded cepatia family, vietnamensis. I believe I was exposed to all of them because of working in my yard and handling decomposing plant matter. My homes Jacuzzi and shower are also suspected of being the source. I coughed quite a bit during and after the yard work exposure.

None of the bugs actually made me sick but my doctor insisted I be hospitalized and set up with a pic line and have a total of four weeks of miropenum, one week in the hospital and three weeks at home. My first time with a pic.

The cepatia was no longer present for several weeks after the IV's but it showed up again on a culture taken a few months ago.

I am still showing no signs of being effected by any of the bugs but I hope to be rid of all of them with the help of GSH, Hypertonic Saline and Oregano Oil supplements. I am also considering using the recently talked about mucolyxir to help keep my lungs clear.

I don't know if I'm totally correct here but I don't think you can take antibiotic that will radicate aspergillas. I'm taking itraconazole to control my aspergillas and that isn't even a garuntee that it will work. If you are allergic to the mold then prednisone is often used to control the inflammation. This is what I know about it and I've cultured it for over 5 years now. Hope it helps and that you're not allergic to it because it can be a real pain if you are!

I started culturing it a few months ago and it was found also because of hemoptysis. I needed an embolization and they did a cat scan and found i have an aspergilloma ( fungus ball). They started me on Sporonax ( Itraconazole) but it dodnt help to shrink it at all. Then they switched me to Vfend ( Vorconazole) and it sems to be doing a better job so far. As far as i know, aspergillus by itself can be gotten rid of , but ABPA cant.

Just wanted to mention that I have ABPA and I have read one other thing to stay away from is wet paint. Since we were remodeling our house it was a bit hard but if we paint we put fans in the windwons and block off that room for a day and if we remodel same thing. Thats alld one, thankfully but wanted to mention it. We also spray bleach in our basement and run a dehumidifier 24/7 until we can move to a house with a more finished basement.
