asthma AND CF

I took Alyssa to clinic this morning and the doc suspects that those dry little coughs post exercise are probably asthma, not CF. She is at the end of a round of abx and is looking, sounding, and feeling very healthy -- so asthma seems a more likely culprit.

I'm just curious how many others have CF and asthma and how the two might complicate one another.

Hi Heather,
There have been many times that our doctors have mentioned Andrew may have an asthma component to his CF. When he was younger,,5/6/7, he took advair. I ended up taking him off of that myself because I didn't really think it was doing anything. Personally, I think asthma components and allergies all affect CF the same way. Now that he has been diagnosed with ABPA I hear the term 'asthma component' much less frequently. I am sure that is because they are chalking up his airway constriction to the aspergillus.

The dry cough you described is one I hear often when Andrew is growing more aspergillus. Did the doctor put her on anything? We always start off with a prednisone burst and go from there.

I hope Alyssa's cough goes away soon! I know it is hard to hear, especially when she is trying to rest. Hang in there!

Tonya -- she's still on augmentin for her staph. But they did take a new culture today. Would ABPA show up on a throat culture?
