Not sure if this will help but, my daughter who is 15 has asthma,cf and alergies. If her FEV1 is down and her coughing has'nt increased she nebs xopenex if numbers come up it's asthma and she is put on prednisone for 5 days and it helps. Works almost everytime. More coughing and the junky stuff it's cf. Hope this helps some.

my FEV1 has been heading downward a couple of clinic visits now and though I'm worried its CF-related, doc wants to try singulair, etc. to see if its asthma related. i too agree that its soooooo hard to tell. i have an asthma component too with wheezing, etc... and, i'm recently coughing more gunk up, which sometimes i attribute to H.S. and a GOOD sign. i guess we go by how i'm feeling mostly. if i'm shocked by the FEV1, we think its asthma, but if i'm expecting crappy FEV1 when i get to clinic and get crappy FEV1, its obvious i'm FEELING yucky and may be CF....
