baby bottle sterilizers for nebs, etc

hi--

we also use the germ guardian and we have talked to our RA and everyone seems to be ok w/ what we are doing...We first wash the nebs in the dishwasher...I dont like the dishwasher but I was told it was good b/c it also sanatizes them....however i will say it again WE LOVE OUR GERM GUARDIAN!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> good luck!

I have hard water too. And I don't like the white film the calcium leaves behind on the nebs. Someone on this site said they put a tablespoon or two of vinegar in the boiling water to eliminate the calcium deposits. I hope that Robert Smith weighs in on whether this is acceptable.

I don't want to lug water bottles so this is what I do --

I use the baby bottle sterilizer in the microwave for 15 minutes after each use. I use filtered water. Steam does kill the bugs (Robert did check this out on another thread). There is no noticible film on the nebs. But after about 2 weeks, the nebs start running slow, so I boil them in vinegar and water for 20 minutes and that gets rid of the calcium buildup and the nebs are good again.

At the end of the day, since I have to sterilize my Flutter anyway, I put everything in a Control II solution for 10 minutes. Tap water rinse. Then Baby bottle sterilizer for 15 minutes. If I didn't have the Flutter, I might trust the baby bottle sterilizer alone. One of these days I am going to get a microwave thermometer and see how hot the sterilizer gets.
