back pain

Is it definitely on the outside? I would get pains there when I had gallstones- that's the only pain I've ever had (I was 16) that made me go crawl in the bed with my parents in the middle of the night to tell them I was hurting.

Oddly enough I get pain like that when I'm dehydrated. it will wake me up and while I don't think I'm a wuss it will push me to near tears. try drinking some water...okay A LOT of water slowly but somewhat constant with a little Tylenol and see if it lets up. If it is dehydration you should feel rather immediate relief (within 15 minutes).

If the water helps then it's probably Dehydration and a Kidney infection can go hand in hand and if a Kidney infection goes on too long it can get really bad and it HURTS. So in short if the water helps you probably should keep up with the water and go see a Dr. asap. I hope something helps soon because pain just sucks.

It sounds like it could be a kidney stone. Do you feel the need to pee often, even if you just went? does the pain get less (even just a little) when you go to the bathroom? If it is a kidney stone, Flexerol will not help, but something with codine should, but not always. Try Advil or something that is anti-inflammatory. Drink plenty of water. Incase it could be a pulled muscle, I would take it really easy this weekend, lay around and dont do anything stressful or too active, see if that helps. Also alternate ice and moist heat, see which helps you the most (personally I respond better to ice). If you still hurt when Monday gets here, go to your doctor. Kidney stones can be common with CFers because of dehydration and high protein needs (a urologist told me this). I hope you get feeling better.

Oh no! not a kidney stone! My mom has had them a couple of times so that could be it. Advil does make it feel better than codeine and I was just thinking that today I felt like I had to pee when I didn't. I have been drinking a lot so that should be good. Would a kindey stone hurt when I touch it?

Don't feel stupid...

The kidneys are the lower left and right side of your body, just above your hip bone, but centered towards your back. Here's a picture

The area where the kidneys are located can be, and usually are, tender to the touch when you have a kidney stone. You usually hurt in your back when a kidney stone is moving from the kidney down into your bladder. The fact that your mom has had kidney stones can also increase your risk of having them. Talk to your mom about the symptoms and type of pain (how it felt, locations, tenderness) she had with her kidney stones. Everyone is different, but it might give you a good idea of what is going on and what to expect. Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of a kidney stone is to pass it. So, continue to drink...juice and water are the best. I would stay away from sodas or anything to that effect.

Ok so the pain is less today. Would it still be a stone if the pain is less. My mom said that when she got them she was in so much pain she couldn't stand it. So if my pain is lessening can it still be a stone. I am drinking a ton of liquid and it is making me feel better. Would that make the stone smaller so it goes away with the pain.

Sorry I am asking so many questions
