G'day everyone. i am thinking of traveling and am wondering if
anyone can help me with a few tips! where did u do your nebs and
psysio if in a backpackers? you can hardley just start misting up
the room you share and coughing like a lunatic really now, can
you?! are there different strains of cf baddies in other countries
that maybe i would be more susceptible to? that type of thing i
would appreciate to hear about. cheers. Black

I can't be a huge help since I don't have cf... I went to school in Ireland for a semester and backpacked around Ireland, Scotland and France. I think most of the hostels I stayed in had some private rooms, or small group rooms for groups of friends or families. They were usually slightly more expensive (a pound or two... maybe 9 pounds instead of 7 (I went right before euros)). So that's an option for nebulizers!

Before I can answer, I need to know a few things...

Where are you planning on going?

How long will you be gone?

Will you have access to electricity?

What medications do you do?

hey miesle, i am suprised at not many posts :-(   however
to answer ur questions, i am planning on going to countries with
reasonable medical facilities, esp for cf. this counts out many of
the places i would prefer but i have to be reasonably sensible!!
pulmozyme is the only refrigerated med i take , however i plan to
go without and keep up my hypertonic as i have tried that in the
past with no ill effects. electricity is a problem and reseach will
be done as to what voltage and adapters are needed. my main concern
is to keep cost down (which is essential , i am poor!! haha) which
normally means sharing rooms. i dont want to do my treatment in
close proximity of others and being a gentle and shy wee thing id
like some privacy whilst dredging the lung lake so to speak! maybe
i will go and wing it and write a small diary of my travels and
learnings to share when i get back. what are your experiences with
backpacking? i love the idea and wont let cf dictate to me in
totality!! i dont think lebanon is one place i shall visit, however
i have been told it is geographically amazing! thanks miesle.

"Countries" - which ones? If you're coming to the US - I could be helpful. Otherwise, not so much. I'm sure there are some Europeans who could help you with that.

Most of my backpacking knowledge is what US people refer to as backpacking - pack full of stuff and out in the wilderness (aka, no power) vs European backpacking - pack full of stuff and staying in hostels. I also could help with road tripping, but again, that's a mostly US thing.

hey miesl, im thinking route 66 actually!, i guess that means road
trip! (sumthin like your movie "road trip"), hope i dont
end up with a womans undies big enough to us as a tent like one guy
did in that--zzzing!. actually, im lookin at a bit of
"me" time , and to finish writting for my book. im toying
with the idea of buying a campervan over there then reselling it b
4 i return. im wondering if there r cheap hostels as an
alternative? maybe u have some more advice on the good old U S of
A? i would love to spend time in Savannah at the end of my stay.
thanks for responding cobber!( very old fashioned aussie term for
mate, actually, i only used it for your benefit!) Blackchameleon
