bactrim 3 times a day?

hi everyone
i had a flare up recently and my doc put me on bactrim ds three times a day
ive travelled the country a bit and other doctors were shocked at such a high dosage, but my current doc insists it is ok
i trust her but i was just wondering if anyone else has ever been on bactrim tid or knows anything about it, id rather not abuse my kidneys...

My doc puts me on the 800mg 2 pills 2 times a day. I thought that was high, I could be wrong but I swore I thought my old doc only had me take one pill 2 times a day but it was years ago.

I haven't ever taken bactrim ds 3x a day but when I get sick I double up my antibiotics. I usually take bactrim 2x (800MG/160 mg)and if I'm sick; zithromax (1 a day; 250 mg), or cephelexin (4x a day; 500 mg), or cipro (2x a day; 750mg).

I take 2 every day and have for the last 9 years...
The other antibiotics I usually have a supply on hand; just incase. That way if I feel myself getting sick...I can just double up after a call to my clinic.

I have never done that, but I am currently on Bactrim 1 1/2 pills twice a day, which after reading seems kinda high. But I am not having an problems (except that its not working very well...lol).
