For 5 years now i have only been washing with, wait for it: old fashioned GREEN SUNLIGHT BAR SOAP. Yes, very unglamorous but I have been converted. On the odd occasion I have used other soap or shower gel i noticed 2 things: first my skin dries out instantly and my face gets this tight feeling, and secondly my armpits start stinking within 2 hours (when you can smell yourself you know its bad!). I guess my skin reacts to the normal scented chemical stuff. I heard about a dermatologist recommending this soap for people with breakouts as it cleans your skin but it isn't harsh and damaging. Just to be clear, its the old fashioned rectangular block of green soap they used for washing clothes etc, not the regular round white/pink kind and NOT the dishwashing liquid lol. It is totally unscented, and just smells like, well sunlight bar soap. A plus point is its dirt cheap and multipurpose, if you go on holiday you can wash everything with the same soap! (does anyone actually know what I'm talking about, or don't you get this in the US? )
Edited to add:
Ok, i just googled it out of interest and it actually seems like you don't get it in the US anymore. I did find a NZ site that sells the stuff online, don't know if they ship internationally.

Nonetheless, the point of the post was that what works for me is a very bland, unscented, mild soap.
