BF moms-is this return of fertility?

I don't know if this will be the same for you, but my period returned at just over 5 1\2 months and I had noticed increased vaginal discharge a couple of weeks before it appeared. I am also exclusively breastfeeding (or was then, before we started cereal and solids at 6 mos). I have just finished my second period and Isabella is 7 mos. today. So, I guess it's here to stay! I hope you can stave off the hormonal combo of bf and pms for as long as possible. Like Nicole said, it's way too much!

Oh... I should mention that Isabella has been sleeping throught the night since she was about 4 mos. so we don't night nurse anymore. That probably has something to do with my "unwanted return".

Well Amelia has not been sleeping through the night but this change has coincided with her having less night wakings to nurse. I think Aunt Flo is on her way.

got my period at 5 months.
grrrrr

it might be your cycles coming back. might just be something else hormonally going on. either way-it could definitely be your period. all bodies are different and though they say a year, its just not true. you'll know within a few weeks if its your 'old friend' or not.

clarification from Caroline's post ... if your period comes before the baby is 6 months old it is most likely anovulatory - after 6 months ovulation comes before the period. breastfeeding mothers, throughout centuries, have had a second pregnancy without a period.
