Bikram Yoga?

Hi everyone

Does anyone think Bikram Yoga would be bad for people with CF? Do any of you do it. For those of you who dont know Bikram Yoga is yoga in a hot room so you sweat a lot. The concern would be hot/humid room = more chance of germs, although good places stress extreme cleanliness.

I know i would LIKE it but am not sure if it would be bad for me. Also i love humid weather but am always cautious of creating my own humidity (via humidifier) because of the difficulty in keeping it super clean.

thoughts? thanks

I have been practicing Kripalu yoga for about 5 years. I have not done Bikram, though sometimes my instructor turns up the heat in our studio in order to sort of simulate that effect. I am not too big a worrier about germs and stuff like that - I was a swimmer for years, in and out of hot humid mold festering pool areas with no ill effects, so I personally think that the heat and sweat would do nothing but good for you...if you go, give us a post and let us know how you like it!

I have been doing Bikram yoga 2x week for the past year and a half and it's been wonderful. Keep youself hydrated and get out of that room as soon as it's done. I haven't experienced any negative effects, only positive.

There was a great article a couple of weeks ago about a 37 year old woman with CF who owns a Birkam yoga studio in Phoenix. She only teaches classes about 5 times a week because the heat makes her lose too much weight, but she firmly believes yoga has helped her stay healthy and beat the odds. I'd do a search for it, I can't find the link right now but I just found the article after a google search for cystic fibrosis and yoga. Good luck!
