Bile Salts?

My son's GI doctor said my son needed bear bile and than looked at his numbers from his lower GI test and decided he didn't. So what is bear bile and why do they give it. I don't know drug names because it was never prescibed. Could it be prescribed in the future?

DS is on "bile salts" also known as actigall or urisidoil (sp) He was put on it as a baby when his liver levels were high after being on TPN (IV feedings) in the NICU. Was pretty much put on in for the long term to keep his liver and gall bladder happy.

Bear Bile?

Definately can't see why you would use with CF...

but a quick google of bear bile shows it is a old asian cure-all, but you get it from the gallbladder of a bear (which they don't normally give you willingly).
