Birth Control Patch

I have not been successful with oral birth control pills. My digestion seem to be messing with the absorption of the hormones. Even doing 2 pills per day (for 3 days) they started to work-- it was drs. orders to try the double pills.

I was prescribed the birth control patch today. Hoping my body will absorb it better that way.

If you have used the patch what are your thoughts???

Should I expect any sort of side effects???... I hear the hormones are a bit stronger.

Also did you have trouble getting it to stick to your skin and stay stuck in place the full week?? Any good spots to put it??

How did you find out that the pills weren't working? I am actually thinking of going back to pills from the patch so this worries me.

I have been on the patch for 6 years(?). Overall it has been fine for me. I do think it has lessened my sex drive which was why I was thinking of changing. As for where to put it, I put it on my butt, because it is out of the way. I have had trouble with it moving but only lately. It has only fallen off once in my whole 6 years.

As I said, I have liked it overall. The only complaint I have had is with the sex drive and I am not even sure that the patch is the reason.

I was on the patch for about 2 years and I loved it, I had absolutely no problems with it. It stuck fine and it was nice not having to remember to take something everyday. I only switched to Yaz because I developed PMDD and it helped control my emotions better.

I was on the patch 6 years ago after switching from oral bc (mostly for convenience). I think I used it for a year or 2. My only side effects were the same as oral bc - reduced/absent sex drive and small weight gain. As soon as I was off bc I lost at least 5 lbs. I'm pretty sure my sex drive started to return at that point as well. I had no problems finding spots to stick it and having it stay put. I believe I used my butt/hip area the most.

Have you thought about an IUD? My DH wants to get a vasectomy because he says he is done having kids. Even though I'm 99% sure I'm done there is still that tiny little doubt that doesn't want to surgically change things just yet. I'm considering an IUD for myself, either the Mirena or the non hormone copper one.
