Birth Control

Sue, Last year a study was released that showed the there is a higher level of circulating estrogen with the patch vs the pill or the ring. The concern is an increased risk of blood clots and stroke. Ask your doctor about this. Women seem to really like the Nuva Ring and it may help women who are troubled with BV (bacterial vaginosis, which is different than a vaginal yeast infection) which one of my CF friends tell me is a problem for her.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I will try talking to my doctor because I can't imagine with it sliding all over the place (which I can't seem to stop no matter what I wear) it is very effective. At least I am not only in this annoyance

I haven't had any issues with the patch being inefective, but I do get the gunk around the edges. I've never found a solution, but it comes off with baby oil. I wear it down low on my belly and actually got less of that band aid stuff than when I tried it on my butt. I think for the winter I'll try it on my arm since I'll be wearing long sleeves anyway.

Have you considered the Nuva ring? My friend is on it and she loves it.

I used to wear it on my butt, however do to many unfortunate circumstances after it being left behind on the sheet from "activity" I moved it to my lower belly and have had much less problem.

As far as the gunk it just comes off with lotion or alcohol. The other thing is I wear silky underwear, I would think cotton would give off more lint, thus adhereing to the gunk around the patch.

I spoke with my doc about the whole, blood clot, heart issues and was told that a lot of that is based on being over weight and smoking (not a problem here).

I thought about using the ring but have heard it could fall out - frankly I refuse to wash it off and stick it back in if it fell in the toilet - EWWWW!

Yeah I thought about the ring but I have trouble with tampons (i am pathetic I know) so the nuva ring would be hard. I think maybe I will switch it to my lower belly. I thought it might hurt there but I just looked at it and it is just so gross. and i still have two days more

Hi, I'm Ceci, daught to alyssa.

I was on the patch, hated it for every moment, barely made the full three weeks. I couldn't -stand- it. It threw my body all out of whack and yeah. I use the nuva ring now. I too have trouble with tampons, but the ring has been a god send for me. I take so many pills that I didn't want to think about another one, and I didn't want to drug my whole body with the hormones. The patch didn't work, obviously, and so I went on the ring. With half the hormones, it was way better. I don't notice it at all, and while it is a little difficult the first time you put it in, after you get the hang of it, (it took two cycles for me) it's so easy you'll probably never want to go back.

My partner doesn't notice it at all, and neither do I. If I didn't write it on the calander, I would forget to take it out. My periods also shortened, another reason I'm using BC. I went from 8 days to 3. Yay.

Anyway, when I was on the patch for the short time, I wore it on my lower belly and I noticed some adhesive problems, and I found that the easiest way to deal with it, was to take it off in the shower slowly, peeling it off slowly with soap on my hands and it.

Hope that helps, and think about trying the ring. I'm a total lover and advocate of it.
