blood streaked sputum

hey eveyone, i haven't been on for ages...i hope you are all well!

i am a bit concerned, as this morning i coughed up some blood streaked sputum for the first time ever. i am a 16 year old pseudomonas patient with lung function over 100% when really well (i.e. just after a tune up) although at the moment my lung function is low 90s and possibly high 80s. there was only a little bit of blood, is this definately coming from my lungs? should i be concerned? i am seeing my doctor in two weeks so i'll mention it then.

thanks!

i would mention it right away to the doc

for some people (myself included - and my FEV1 is 95%) it can be a sign of infection.

And you know the name of the game with infection - the sooner you treat it the less permanent, irreversible damage it will do

I'm with Amy. Inform your doctor. Its either an infection or you've coughed so hard that you've broken a little blood vessel in your lungs. My doc always prescribes Vitamin K supplements as a natural clotting agent to help stop the bleeding. I wouldn't freak out over it or anything, but I wouldn't wait to mention it in the case that it is an infection brewing.

Definitely get it checked! If you are in a high humid area right now....it might have been the strain from that, but you cant assume anything & you dont want to lose that great lung function because you didnt check in!
