Hi just wanted to ask someone this for ages, this is a bit yuk but i have to ask , over the last 5 mts everytime i make love to my boyfriend, i cough up a lot of blood and that lasts for 3 or 4 days , has this happend to anyone else ? thanx lauren
I cough up blood a lot. It doesn't really matter what I do. It could be laughing, sneezing, coughing, or any tipe of exercise. Including sex. So yeah, this is normal. You just have to position yourself that you aren't under a lot of pressure. When I cough up blood, I prop myself up on the bed with pillows and just sit calmly and try not to cough. My husband gets me a drink and the tissues. I usually know when I'm going to cough up blood and there is more than one time that we had to 'stop' because of it.
It might be the physical strain during sex that your body is reacting to. Maybe change things around a bit of what normally takes place or how & see if it makes a difference. For me anything can trigger the bleeding so I understand completely. Good Luck!
It seemed for years, any time i layed down flat i would cough up blood even during sex or right at the beginning. After having 2 embolizations, i no longer lay flat. I sleep propped up on pillows. Luckily i dont have a boyfriend so sex isnt an issue, but i guess eventually it will be.
Hi,
try to take vitamin K, normally it should help. But as it can also be that you need more or other antibiotics you should also talk to your cf- doc about it. If you don´t want to tell him exactly when it happens, just say when you do sports/running/exercise, something like that.
"luckily" you don't have a boyfriend....we aren't all that bad!

LOL, I know, it just seems easier at the moment not having to deal with the "well i cant lay flat , so lets get creative" schpeel....lol .
Any guy i've mentioned it to says it wouldnt be a problem for them at all, but at the moment it seems easier for me not to have to deal with it at all.
Vitamin e helps too. when it happens to me I sit up and try to meditate on slowing down my heart rate and relaxing. Then the bleeding stops. Sipping cool water while doing this helps. Sometimes, when we think the bleeding is coming from the lungs it can actually be coming from a little vein in the throat or esophagus. My CF'ers have what is called esophageal varies caused by our nutritional problems. These varies or enlarged veins are what sometimes bleed. One that I was having bleeding episodes my DR had me go to a ENT (ear, nose & throat specialist) and he looked down my throat with a scope. After being on antibiotics the throat can be raw and delicate.
Hang in there, dont give up on sex, its good for you
