BLOWN VEIN

When Courtney had her blood drawn today she said it hurt more than normal. After she took the bandage off it was quite obvious the vein was blown (lots of bruising on and around the spot and swelling).

Any suggestions on how to take the pain away? Ice, heat??

Thanks

Hmmmm...mine did that last week too. It bruised quite bad, but it didnt hurt too much. I would say ice might help.

I was always told ( by my iv nurse) to apply heat ,and one time i finally tried it and it worked wonders. I sat there with a heating pad on it for about 10-15 minutes a few times a day.

Advil for inflammation and pain, Ice pack for numbing and blood vessel constriction...should keep the bruise from getting bigger. I have always been told to use ice, on 10 mins, off for 20 mins. Make sure you wrap the ice pack in a towel to keep it from touching bare skin. Hope she gets feeling better.
