Bowel Surgery

So I have been having chronic "cecal intussusception) for about ten years now, and was finally able to get it diagnosed via my local ER after 2 CT scans. Everybody, including my CF doc, has always brushed it off as constipation or DIOS. Well now I have the evidence the prove them otherwise!!

So the ER docs said that I MUST get a surgical consult because if one of these times it doesn't fix itself there's a high probability of death. Great. I really don't want to have surgery for the obvious reasons (mainly will my lungs get worse during the recoup time?) But if it turns out I must then I guess I will.

Has anybody been through a similar situation? I suspect they'll do a resection of my bowel. Any advice, suggestions, special considerations I should put fourth to my MD's? I'm freaking out about this.

Thanks everyone

Sorry if I am changing your subject but I was about to make a new thread and saw yours and maybe you can help.

Last week I had to be admitted to the ER as I had the most excruciating stomach pains ever. They would come and go really badly to the point that they had to give me morphine to help with the pain.

They eventually gave me a colonoscopy and I was all better and was able to move my bowls with no pain.

I went home and three days later got the pain again. They had prescribed this thing called GOLytely for me to take after the hospital stay but the doctor told me if I was feeling good not to take it. So I got it in case of an emergency.

Sure enough three days later pain came back, same symptoms as before. I took the GoLytely and about three hours later I was better. Now here I am three days later and again pains are back and not sure if I should go into the hospital or wait till tomorrow.

Is the condition you described above similar to my condition? Also are there any others out there that have gone through what I am going through. This is a really bad pain.

I had bowel resection of my transverse and ascending colon almost three years ago. I have to be honest, it was not a real easy surgery for me ..

I was in the hospital sick for a whole month before the surgery... my intestines had a slight perforation to them so I was NPO on TPN for a month while I healed, soon as I was healed enough.. ( a month later) I am a slow healer because of the steroids I take.. I had the surgery...

I was able to walk around a few hours post op and I did recover,..just slowly.. Overall, I am pretty sure I am glad I had the surgery though I think I would have liked to try other methods first ... but if you have tried other methods and you are in pain I would say go for it..

I totally understand it being life threatening if you don't get it fixed in time as well and ultimately that is why I went for the surgery.. I didn't want to end up with a colostomy or losing my life.

it is a hard choice and one you need to think long and hard about and get lots of input from you doctors who know you best..
