bronchs

Lynda,
What you need to do is ask your doctor why they feel need to do a bronch. They sometimes want to get in and see the internal structutres etc that don't show up on ct scan. You can also often get a deeper culture which can yield more accurate results. If they don't have a really good reason then I would hold on having one as the risk of collapsed lung is higher in pts with cf.
If you do have to have one tell them you want concious sedation. No one should be awake for that procedure-scars or not it is very unpleasant.
Good luck

I've had multiple bronchs, but that's because I culture yeast which I can't produce from a sputum culture (go figure) they have to go get it. I've never been awake for one though. Can't imagine how that would be... eek!

Anyway, they only did the bronch though if I wasn't responding to the current course of antibiotics. Best of luck!

My son had a bronch, he was about 1 yr. old and had a cough that we couldn't seem to figure our. Seems like a good test if you don't think that your cultures are giving you all of the answers.

He was sedated for the bronch and recovered quickly.
